Electric Saunas

Overview

Installing a sauna in your home can have many benefits to your mental and physical health — but how can you choose a sauna that fits your home, your budget, and your ideal energy costs?

Electric saunas come in all shapes and sizes. Here are some of the things to consider.

Benefits of Electric Saunas

Why an electric sauna instead of a gas sauna?

  • Safer operation
  • Easier installation
  • More versatile placement and install options
  • No gas lines or refilling of tanks required
  • More energy efficient options

Types of Electric Saunas

Not every home has room for a spa-scale sauna installation, and not every sauna is energy efficient. There are many factors that go into choosing the right one, so make sure you consider the following options.

Wall-Mounted Sauna

If you already have a suitable space for your home sauna, a wall-mounted sauna is an affordable and versatile option. Wall-mounted saunas are safe for home use when manufacturer specifications are followed.

Standalone Saunas

There are standalone options for saunas that provide everything you need, including the relaxation space. There are some indoor options and many outdoor standalone options to choose from.

Electric Stone Saunas

Electric stone saunas use electric resistance to heat up rocks in a tray, which then keeps air in a sauna at the desired temperature. Electric saunas are often more straightforward to operate than their gas-powered counterparts.

Infrared Saunas

Infrared saunas heat up the objects inside of a sauna, instead of the air. Infrared saunas are often the most energy-efficient option for home saunas.

Other Things to Consider: Size and Power

Do you know the size and power specifications of the sauna you are looking for? These two specifications are very important factors in how much your new sauna costs to purchase and install, as well as how much it costs to operate through monthly energy costs. Many saunas (with the exception of wall-mounted) will require a 220V (220 volt) power connection, and in some cases,a separate, secure enclosure. Also, consider whether the sauna should be installed with the help of a qualified electrician.
